In many ways, these two hand blenders are alike, including their average performance in making smoothies or pureeing hot soups. Indeed, our testing procedures exposed a couple of issues with both of them. These included a violent shaking motor that caused hand fatigue and poor head-suction performance that made it challenging for us to move the blending wand around for an even blend.

However, if you have to choose between these two blenders, we recommend going with the  BELLA 10-speed, given its slightly better cleanability and blended results.

Hot Soup Purée

A batch of soup pureéd by the UTALENT stick blender is checked for smoothness by being drained through a stainless steel mesh strainer.
  • Pureeing Time: 30 seconds
  • Result: Chunky
  • Suction: Slightly

None of the low-range blenders we tested churned out the silkiest puree in 30 seconds, but the UTALENT’s soup was so chunky that we couldn’t consider it a pass. Most of the unprocessed chunks, including carrots and celery, are large enough to be visible after straining. Some couldn’t even be blended because they got lodged in the blade guard’s holes.

Making hot soup puree is the easiest and most basic task of an immersion blender so it really doesn’t make sense to buy this one.

  • Pureeing Time: 30 seconds
  • Result: Chunky
  • Suction: Tightly

The BELLA is moderately capable at pureeing soup. In our test, it took around 30 seconds to blend and combine all the ingredients. However, we still found lots of tiny chunks when we ran the soup through a strainer. On the whole, blending didn’t go smoothly since the blender itself created a bit too much suction. At the highest speed settings, it vacuumed itself solidly to the beaker’s bottom, making it very difficult for us to make any movements. For a better performer overall, we recommend the Vitamix 5-speed or the KitchenAid cordless hand blender.

  • Blending Time: 2 minutes
  • Result: Leafy
  • Suction: Slightly

The UTALENT is definitely not for you if you like your smoothies packed with frozen fruit or green veggies. Apart from being too weak to blend through tough ingredients, it’s also unable to liquify leafy veggies effectively.

Our smoothie was churned out with a grainy, leafy texture even after up to 2 minutes of processing. Upon stirring it to check its smoothness, we noticed that there were some grains of unprocessed kale still left in the mixture.

Furthermore, the machine required our intervention to draw all the ingredients toward the blades: We had to constantly stir with the blending wand to ensure everything was incorporated. What a frustrating blending process!

Our BELLA transformed all the ingredients into a drinkable texture in approximately one minute, from start to finish. It didn’t have too much difficulty powering through frozen fruit or kale. The resulting smoothie was acceptable with very few unprocessed chunks.

  • Emulsifying Time: 1 min 35 secs
  • Result: Thick
  • Suction: No

Our mayo sauce was a very simple one: an emulsion of oil blended with egg yolk. We made it in about 1 minute and a half using the blender’s whisk attachment. Regarding its consistency, we wished that it could have been creamier. Although this machine made short work of incorporating all the ingredients, our emulsification came out relatively thick—albeit stable.

Making mayonnaise was easy with this blender. Of all the blenders we tested, it was among the fastest, beating our favorite blender — the Braun MultiQuick-5 by up to 30 seconds. That said, its mayonnaise didn’t come out very smooth and creamy. Still, for such a low-priced hand blender, this result is worthy of praise.

UTALENT 5-In-1 Immersion Almond Milk Test
  • Grinding Time: 2 minutes
  • Result: Coarse
  • Suction: Tightly

Of all the blenders we tested, the UTALENT was the slowest performer. It took up to two minutes to complete this task — twice as slow as the winner, the Cuisinart Smart Stick. And even still, the nuts weren’t evenly ground. As a result, our milk couldn’t pack the full flavor of almond. It was drinkable but quite watery and not as creamy as it should have been.

  • Grinding Time: 1 min 15 secs
  • Result: Coarse
  • Suction: Tightly

Our non-dairy milk required nearly a minute and a half of blending, but it still didn’t come out as smooth and creamy as it should. And not only couldn’t the machine blend uniformly, but it also created bad suction, causing a mess when we struggled to lift it upward.

UTALENT 5-In-1 Immersion Whipped Egg-Whites Test
  • Beating Time: 2 mins 50 secs
  • Result: Stiff
  • Suction: No

The low power rating made this blender lag behind its rivals. We had to spend a great deal of time to achieve a stiff peak. Of course, it wasn't a big deal to simply blend for a few more minutes but the prolonged operation caused the motor to overheat, thus impairing its durability. Still, this is a pretty common occurrence for most low-grade blenders. To name a few, the Mueller Ultra-Stick, Hamilton Beach 2-Speed, and the BELLA 10-Speed.

BELLA 10-Speed Whipped Egg-Whites
  • Beating Time: 3 minutes
  • Result: Stiff
  • Suction: No

The BELLA’s whisk attachment drew enough air into the egg whites to create stiff peaks in our test, but its prolonged beating operation left us with exhausted hands and extreme discomfort. So, even though this add-on can do the trick, we don’t think it’s a good alternative to a hand mixer when it comes to preparing emulsified sauces or meringue. There are other immersion blenders that can ensure smoother operations, such as the KOIOS 4-in-1 and the Breville Control Grip.

Dimensions

The UTALENT Hand Blender stands on top of its blending shaft on a gray table, with the length of the blending shaft being noted to the side as 7.8 inches, and the total length of the unit as 15 inches.
  • Height:
    15.0" (38.1 cm)
  • Width:
    2.0" (5.1 cm)
  • Weight:
    1.7 lbs (0.8 kg)
  • Shaft Length:
    7.8" (19.8 cm)

Our UTALENT is shipped as a very compact package. Sleek and portable, the machine itself is 15-inches long and with a blending shaft that is almost half the length, you can easily immerse it into any soup pot. At only 1.6 pounds, it's also lightweight and feels well balanced.

    2.3" (5.8 cm)
  • Weight:
    2.0 lbs (0.9 kg)
  • Shaft Length:
    8.3" (21.1 cm)

So far, we haven’t encountered any challenges caused by this blender’s size. The machine itself is compact enough to store in a drawer, and it isn’t overly heavy. Weight isn’t a hindrance to the machine’s usability.

Build Quality

7.0
The whisk attachment, motor body, blending shaft, and milk frother attachment of the UTALENT hand-held blender lying flat on a gray table.

Low-range blenders like this UTALENT are often of a medium quality with a few shortcomings in the design. For the most part, their exteriors are averagely built with a shiny look, but the inner core that connects the blending wand to the main body feels flimsy and lacks durability. This is a serious point with wider implications — if the core breaks, it will render the blender useless. The gasket that helps tighten the main body and the attachments is also substandard. We noticed it became discolored after just five times of use.

The whisk attachment, motor body, and blending shaft of the BELLA stick blender lie flat on a gray table.

The BELLA can be purchased for less than $30, but that low price tag is a clue as to its quality. The machine itself feels relatively solid, but it doesn’t look as sleek as the mid-range ones. With the exception of the blending shaft, all the parts are made of medium-grade plastic which may deteriorate and collect scratches over the years.

Not only that, but several Amazon users have complained about the inner components. Some claim that the plastic core that connects the blending wand to the main body somehow got shredded, rendering the blender useless. Others were frustrated when the tabs that connect to attachments broke.

All things considered, we don’t think the BELLA is a reliable performer, even though it’s backed by an impressive warranty (two years).

  • Pulse Mode:

The UTALENT works much like other hand-held blenders sporting multiple speed settings. It allows you to speed up smoothly through the top dial, which doesn't, however, seem to make any apparent difference when it comes to the blended result. That’s why we rarely used this control in our hands-on testing.

Instead, we often use the Turbo mode located on the front interface— a function that instantly sends the blender into its highest speed. That said, this control, like the power button, demands quite a bit of force from the user.

  • Noise Level:
    84 dB
  • Digital Display:
    No
  • Pulse Mode:
    Yes

On paper, the BELLA allows the users to easily switch between 10 speed options using the two front buttons and a top dial. Our real-world experience, though, indicates that while they get the job done, it takes a lot of force to press the buttons.

Likewise, the speed dial isn’t really essential. It’s hard to use because both hands are engaged while blending — one hand to maneuver the blender and the other to keep the beaker from jumping around the countertop with the motor’s violent vibration.

Blending Shaft

    Sharp Blade
  • Guard Material:
    Stainless steel
  • Blade Count:
    4
  • Removable:
    Yes
  • Dishwasher Safe:

In terms of shape and size, the UTALENT’s blending shaft differs in two ways from other immersion blenders. So far, we haven’t noticed any benefit from this unusual design. Worse still, the shorter length 4-prong blade reduces contact with the blending food, thus leading to an increment of blending time.

Not only that, but it also cannot tackle heavy-duty tasks. It is too fragile to blend through solid foods like ice cubes or raw root veggies without being damaged or deformed.

Together with the smaller blades is a narrower blade guard. If food gets lodged, this makes it trickier to scrape the sides to dislodge the food without the blade getting in the way. Entirely made of stainless steel, the blade guard is also a potential risk for your nonstick cookware surface.

The blade has 4 prongs made of medium-quality stainless steel. It comes relatively sharp, but looks a bit fragile. If you use this blender for grinding tough ingredients, the blade assembly may get damaged.

We appreciate that the blade guard was designed to prevent splattering, but don't think that it works as intended. It creates a lot of suction at the bottom of our beaker. And since it’s made of metal with harsh edges, the blade guard can leave marks on your non-stick cookware unless you blend very carefully.

Ease of Use

6.0

The intuitive interface makes it easy to figure out how this machine works, but it still doesn’t make the blending a pleasant enough experience. Since the blender itself often vacuums to the beaker’s bottom, it may cause excessive splatters when you move your hands.

In addition, due to the motor’s violent vibration, we couldn’t maneuver the blender comfortably. Our hand muscles had became tired after just two tests, and as a result, we encountered some difficulty in speeding up or moving the blending wand in the subsequent tests.

The controls are easy to understand, but we never got comfortable actually operating it. While its interface is very intuitive with only two buttons and a speed selection dial, the motor’s vibration made our hands entirely numb. Moreover, the buttons are too stiff and unresponsive, so our fingers got tired in a hurry. In some cases our fingers slipped right off the trigger button, causing unplanned interruptions to our testing process.

The low rating of this blender’s usability isn’t all due to its controls, though. Throughout most of the tests, the blending shaft stuck itself so tightly to the container’s bottom that we couldn’t lift it up unless we shut off the motor. That’s quite unacceptable, in our opinion.

7.0

Blade Assembly

7.5

Setting up the blender is a straightforward process. Simply align the attachment with the main housing and make a quarter turn counterclockwise until you hear it click into place.

That said, if your hands are wet or oily, the whole body’s polished-plastic exterior can be too slippery for a secure grasp. This challenges the detachment process, especially when this machine lacks an accessory ejection button.

To blend, attach the blending wand or any mixing accessories to the main body by turning it in a counter-clockwise direction until tightened.

7.5

Handling

6.0
Someone is holding the UTALENT’s handle with one hand and at the same time, rotating the speed dial on the top of the motor body with the other hand.

The handle is comfortable and its ergonomic design helps to maintain a secure grip, but the blender's violent shaking still made it difficult to avoid hand fatigue throughout our tests.

Someone uses two hands to control the BELLA immersion blender: one for holding the handle and pressing the power button at the same time, the other for rotating the speed dial.

Designed with an ergonomic handle, this blender is meant to be comfortable to grip, reducing hand and wrist pain. Due to its violent vibration and stiff buttons, however, our hands got tired anyway.

6.5

Cleanability

7.5

After each test, we noticed that the blade’s backsides were home to a large amount of residuals that couldn’t be simply rinsed off under the running water tap. And due to the restricted space between the blade and its guard, we couldn’t get our fingers in to remove them. If you want to get a thorough clean, you must use a straw-cleaning brush.

All the included accessories are top-rack dishwasher-safe and easy to clean manually. The main difficulties are in a few hard-to-reach spots such as the backsides of the blades. We had to use a bit of elbow grease on the food tailings.
