Are you hunting for the best mixer that can help expand the list of things you’re able to bake in a short amount of time? If yes, here is your station.
Believe it or not, a good mixer is definitely a great way to take your baking (and cooking) game into the new level, bringing about an easier life – so much more than you can imagine.
If you are someone who enjoys baking or finds kneading bread dough your life’s passion; then you may be always looking for a new gadget that helps get your baking done without huge effort. So, when it comes to a kitchen appliance collection, an electronic mixer can be the perfect option for handling tasks that are usually time-consuming or impossible to do by hand properly.
Key differences between various types of electric mixers
There are now available two different types of electric mixers, comprising the stand mixer and the hand mixer. While the handheld model does offer convenience and portability, the other one is much more versatile as well as best suited for those who bake regularly.
If you think the stand mixer is a unitasker, you’re completely wrong. As not only does it take the hassle out of mixing, whisking, whipping and kneading, a stand mixer also excels at delivering better and more consistent results. Thanks to its large capacities and big, metal balloon whisks, a stand mixer will take the hard work out of making large batches of cakes, doughs or batters, saving you both time and effort in the kitchen. It seems to be the easiest way to bake your way to perfection.
However, in general, this type of product is a bit on the expensive side. Since it’s usually featured with more power, more durable parts and extra attachments. So, if you don’t mind paying for quality, for sure, the machine should be a worthy investment.
“How to choose the best stand mixer?”, you me be wondering. So, let me tell you something!
From my personal experiences, a good stand mixer is a machine that never jumps around when kneading heavy dough. Apart from efficiently mixing all the ingredients at the same time, it should also knead dough better and work faster than a hand mixer. Dishwasher-safe accessories to make cleaning process much more painless is another important thing to note before you buy a stand mixer.
Unlike a stand mixer which takes up lots of countertop space, a hand mixer really shines as a small and easy-to-store replacement for making cakes, whisking up egg whites and kneading dough. For the occasional baker or anyone whose kitchen space is not roomy enough, this little model is absolutely an ideal bargain. It makes work done more quickly than you expect.
For advice on what to look for in a good hand mixer, the deciding feature for me is the weight of your desired appliance. Try to make sure it is not too heavy unless you want to take a bit more effort to use and soon you’ll fall out of love with it. Also, do not choose something that is too light or you may feel there isn’t enough control. This type of product tends to vibrate and move around too much while in use, especially at high speeds. As a result, controlling the machine will become much more tougher and harder.
All things considered, a good hand mixer should be completely comfortable to hold while still strong and sturdy enough to tackle a wide variety of cooking tasks.

1. KitchenAid KSM150PSER Stand Mixer – Best Stand Mixer to Buy in 2018
Everyone should have the KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer in their own home. It’s durable, multi-purpose, and attractive. It makes baking a joy and fits perfectly on the counter under the cupboards.
To be honest, this mixer isn’t as big as I thought it’d be, but it’s still heavy duty and solid as a rock. It has a powerful motor with plenty of low-end torque to push through even the most difficult concoctions. The best part about this model is the fact that it comes in 20 different color options, creating the opportunity for the buyers to find the one that best matches their style and personality. There is no way you can’t find one that is an aesthetically pleasing addition to your kitchen.
Now on to what I like about the machine. The mixing beaters work fine for mixing dry or sloppy ingredients. The dough hook has great performance for a standard loaf of bread dough. The 5-quart stainless steel bowl with a comfortable handle offers enough capacity to mix dough for 9 dozen cookies, 4 loaves of bread or 7 pounds of mashed potatoes in a single batch. All the attachments (pasta maker, pasta rollers, grinder, shredder, juicer, sausage stuffer) work very well. Especially, they’re entirely dishwasher-safe for a quick and easy cleanup.
One other thing I love is that the attachments can be used with older mixers, meaning I don’t need to worry about not being able to buy new attachments as they come available even after I’ve had mine for years.
When you set it up for the first time, there’s adjustment screws on the head of the mixer. Put your mixing blade in and adjust the screw so the tip of the blade almost touches the bottom of the bowl. Without any instruction, it tooks me about 10 minutes to complete the installation. So, I think it’d be better if there’s are instructions on how to do that.
The splatter shield also leaves a lot to be desired. It does not attach to the bowl firmly; it is a bit warped so it does not sit down properly all the way around, and it needs to be held in place by hand. It isn’t really needed if the speed of the mixer is started slow and not raised too much while mixing ingredients. Hence, the shield has been squirreled away in a dark place as a useless piece of equipment.
Bottom line: I could give hundreds of reasons why I’m so satisfied with this product, but all I want to say is that this mixer is everything you and I will ever need. Don’t hesitate to buy it, for sure, you could not be happier with your purchase.
2. Bosch Universal Plus Mixer – Best Commercial Mixer
Not only is this thing a super useful kitchen appliance, it seems to be built and engineered very well indeed, more like an commercial product than a consumer product. If you are looking at quality and value, look no further. Bosch mixer is the superlative mixer for your kitchen.
The Bosch Universal Plus is popularly known for its bread making capability. With a powerful motor, this kitchen mixer has no problem in kneading a BIG bowl of dough in about 25% less time than many other regular mixers. When you turn it on, you can get the feel of the full 800 watts of power it is capable of by its roaring sound. However, it’s still considerably quieter than some traditional blenders.
Besides kneading dough, this machine also can tear up just about anything you throw at it. Of course, all the results always come out beautifully. I think you might need to modify your recipes slightly in terms of kneading or mixing time when this machine does a pretty efficient job in less time than you’ve ever expected.
In term of performance, the knead arm does a great job of mixing and kneading. The convenient suction cups on the base make sure it stays on your countertop without taking up a lot of space. The dough hook is of industrial-strength, and the mixing paddles do a great job with thinner batters. Plus, there is a removable splash guard around the rim that allows users to add extra flour while the device is running without making a mess.
On the subject of the bowl, other than an easy cleanup, it’s an awesome design which is very handy for baking as compared to other stand mixers. However, due to the fact that this part is all made from plastic to prevents the dough from sticking to it, we cannot use hot liquids for making marshmallows, IMBC or meringues.
Truly, I have no complaints with the mixer, however, if Bosch is listening, it would be great to have a kneading arm scraper device to draw material from the bowl walls into the kneading arm. Other than that, I would not change a thing.
Bottom line: So far I’m very impressed with the machine. There is no doubt in my mind that this mixer is one of the best in the market. It isn’t cheap, I know, but if you cook and bake a lot, it’s well worth the investment in the long run.
3. Ankarsrum Original AKM 6220 Red Stand Mixer – Best Luxury Mixer
I absolutely love this mixer, especially for heavy things like breads and cookies. It works exactly as advertised by the manufacturers and dealers. Although it’s an expensive machine, I’m glad to say that it is definitely a valuable lifetime investment which will go with you for years to come.
Frankly speaking, the advantages of this machine are numerous. There seems to be nothing that it cannot handle. Right out of the box you can see immediately the very high build quality of this device. It’s built like a tank that’s meant to last a lifetime. It also has an enormous capacity for home use. I have run heavy batches of dough that can burn out most home mixers while this unit hasn’t even shown the slightest sign of strain. It does the job well without any grinding and gnashing of the motor.
Interestingly, it runs more quietly and uses less electricity than the Bosch Universal. Plus, you can add ingredients and see how it is blended without having to stop the mixer and lift the beating tool.
With regard to the attachments, the machine comes with a big, open bowl to view and dump ingredients in as well as two different mixing attachments for regular mixing duties (including whipping). It also has a timer on the switch that I really appreciate. I can set the timer and go work on something else until it shuts off. For me, every single part of this mixer is extremely well designed.
Unlike previous reviewed models, The Ankarsrum DOES requires studying how to use it. You can’t figure out how to use the mixer on your own. But, once you go through the short learning curve (simply take a few minutes to watch one of the many videos that are posted on YouTube), it will never be a big deal.
So far, the Ankarsrum Original AKM 6220 is my favorite home mixer. However, there are still some things that I really dislike. Firstly, the roller tool can really be used for just about everything except whipping creams and egg whites. Secondly, for the price point, I cannot believe that the gears on the beating tool are plastic which might break at the slightest provocation.
Bottom line: If you’ve been using a conventional mixer for bread dough, and don’t want to learn anything new, then don’t bother with the Ankarsrum. On the other hand, if you like learning new things, and want to expand your baking repertoire, then I would highly recommend this mixer. Yes, this may be more expensive but in the long run if it holds up, then the extra cost is totally worth it.
4. Cuisinart HM-90BCS Power Advantage Plus 9-Speed Handheld Mixer – Best Affordable Mixer
Would you like to buy a hand mixer that looks like a million bucks, but with cost far less than a thousand bucks? If yes, the Cuisinart HM-90BCS Advantage Plus 9-Speed Handheld Mixer will actually be a decent choice.
There are many reasons why I decided to go with this model. It’s very useful for quick, light mixing jobs as well as is easy to store and takes up hardly any space at all. It has varying speeds from very slow to whip anything into a frenzy. Even on the slowest speed, it always starts very fast, but that’s not a problem. You know this will happen so hold it above your batter for a few seconds until it slows down.
Plus, all the attachments are excellent quality with sturdy appearances, especially the whisk which is compact enough to use in a measuring cup or even a wide glass. On top of that, with a powerful motor, I haven’t experienced any lagging, whining noises, or the smell of the motor being overworked.
I also especially appreciate the storage container it clicks into. It holds all the attachments in one place, neatly and easily. No having to hunt for the beaters and no loose cord getting all tangled up.
Some have reported that the attachments can fall out unpredictably. I did have this experience, but only one time when I didn’t put them into their matching openings. For clarification, there are two different fitted holes for the attachments and each of them looks fairly different. If you fit them appropriately, they will never fall out. So, it’s not a big deal at all. I in no way feel this mixer is dangerous or that I have to take any extraordinary precautions when using it. Just be mindful about this matter before inserting the attachments.
Also, in agreement with many buyers, the cord attached to the mixer is poorly designed. It doesn’t swivel from side to side far enough to be out of your way when sitting on the counter, causing it to pull off center or just be difficult to lay flat.
From my perspective, the cord should be able to swing 180 degrees so that more flexibility could be obtained.
Bottom line: All in all, this is really a good hand mixer, even though it’s not made for every task. If you are someone who likes to cook or finds yourself cooking a lot throughout each week, then the Cuisinart HM-90BCS would be a more reasonable choice.
5. KitchenAid K45SSOB Classic Series Stand Mixer – Best Dough Stand Mixer
To me, KitchenAid stands for quality, so that’s why I’m highly favorable with this brand. And, like most KitchenAid products which streaks of quality, the one in this deal is not an exception.
How amazing is that? Actually, the machine is great for mixing anything that requires a little elbow grease. It is durable and well-built, and stylish enough to have a permanent home on your kitchen counter.
I love that it comes with three different attachments for various uses – the dough hook which makes making bread a joy, the whisk which is perfect for making whipped cream or meringue, and the regular stirring attachment which is perfect for everything else. I also love how many different attachments are available for purchase so you can create a custom system for your cooking/baking preferences.
However this unit does not come with a pouring shield. It also does not have a handle on the bowl (but you can buy an extra bowl with handle as an accessory), and that’s taken a little bit of getting used to. Aside from that though, this is definitely a great product.
Referring to the dough hook, it definitely cuts down on the amount of time required to get the job done. In less than a few minutes, the dough is evenly mixed and you can work on another step in the process at the same time since your hands are completely free. Honestly, I’ve never known a mixer could make such a difference.
The only thing that surprised me a lot is how heavy this device is. I cannot lift or move it myself. But for me this is not really a big problem. It’s heavy enough so that it doesn’t bounce around the counter. Plus, the heaviness does lead to more stability, and that is something I look out for before purchasing a stand mixer. But, despite the large appearance, it runs so quietly that you hardly even realize it’s switched on. It’s also so quick and efficient.
Bottom line: Being one of the best excellent tool for any baker, this machine has turned the hardest tasks into a simple matter of throwing the ingredients in the bowl and turning on the power. Although it is a bit on the expensive side; if you don’t mind paying for quality, it certainly will never let you down. For sure, this kind of appliance will offer so many uses in your kitchen.
6. Hamilton Beach 62682RZ Hand Mixer – Best Hand Mixer
For me, the Hamilton Beach 62682RZ is an excellent appliance to have when you need a mixer but don’t really need the power of a full-size stand mixer. I know, there are abundant high end products which are a lot more versatile and can do a better job, however, surely, you will be pleasantly surprised as how well this mixer performed for the price that you pay for it.
Personally, I think the machine does well what it’s supposed to do, especially for mixing, whisking and folding. It has a nice variation of speeds and plenty of power for all my needs. Even though the lowest speed setting isn’t very low at all and there’ll be time you’d like it to not go so fast at the start, it’s still a sturdy and powerful device for the low price, especially when you aren’t ready for a fancy stand mixer yet.
In term of performance, the motor gets a bit hot after extensive use but that’s to be expected. You still can make countless batches of cookie dough with this mixer and it will never let you down.
Another special feature that sets this mixer apart from other ones is its snap on the case which is extremely convenient for containing the cord and keeping everything clean and organized. It also makes it easy to keep track of the beaters and whisk and protect them from unnecessary damage in the kitchen drawer.
If you’re like me, you may have a difficult time fitting the beaters, the whisk, and the power cord into their house. I do think it would be nice if it was an inch longer so that the beaters and whisk can lay flat easily. However, I understand that this is like splitting hairs and has no bearing on the functionality and efficiency of the product.
Bottom line: Overall, the Hamilton Beach 62682RZ has exceeded my expectations. So far, it’s a great mixer which is both versatile and budget-friendly. It lives up to everything it is advertised to be. Whether you’re learning to cook or a first time user of a mixer, this tool is always perfect for you. I would highly recommend buying this.
