DuPont and PUR are household names, so it can be difficult to pick between their offerings.

Putting the DuPont WFM100XCH faucet-mount filter through our test battery, we found the filter to have excellent chlorine filtering performance. We pumped highly-chlorinated water through the cartridge and used a water test kit to assess the filtered water. The DuPont filter successfully removed all traces of the chemical from the water.

The PUR Plus FM2500V also got the same result in the chlorine test: perfect chlorine filtration.

However, in the flow rate test, both the DuPont and the PUR filters suffered. They’re one of the few models in our database that failed the flow rate test.

We mounted both models to a high-pressure faucet (2.2 GPM), switched the filters to filtering mode, then measured the flow rate of the clean water coming from each. The results were discouraging. The DuPont’s flow rate was 0.46 GPM, while the FM2500V was 0.3 GPM.

Because of the low flow rate, neither will be compelling if you’re in the market for a fast-working filter.

In terms of design and usability, the DuPont and the PUR filters are comparable.

So, if you have to pick between them based on performance alone, the DuPont should give you a better experience (though not by much) with its higher flow rate. Its chrome-plated design should also look a bit better than the plasticky housing of the PUR filter, too.

Pros & Cons

  • Chrome-plated design gives it a sharp appearance
  • Excellent chlorine filtering capability
  • Decent flow rate
  • Easy to install and use
  • Excellent chlorine filtering ability
  • Easy installation and servicing with "one-click" system
  • Lightweight and compact design
  • A filter change indicator
  • The filter has a very low maximum filtering capacity (100 gallons)
  • Only has one nozzle, so it’s hard to know what mode the filter has been switched into until you look at the routing valve’s handle
  • Low flow rate in filtering mode
  • Weak grip on faucet due to the one-click system
  • Flimsy routing valve’s handle
  • The plastic construction can be problematic for long-term durability
