Waste King L-1001
Tested Using Methodology v1.0InSinkErator Evolution Compact
Tested Using Methodology v1.0Overall Verdict
Right from the start, the Waste King L-1001 1/2 HP doesn’t look like a fair matchup for the InSinkErator Evolution Compact 3/4 HP. One is a small, affordable garbage disposal and the other is an introductory model to a premium series. Judging by their build quality alone, you can tell the better-featured one is going to have to upper hand here.
By and large, the Evolution Compact is the better-performing garbage disposal, according to data from performance evolution. With a stronger motor and a more intricate grinding assembly, it handles most scraps consistently well, including avocado pits and cooked bones. Not only that, the disposal’s sound/vibration damping technology is one of the most advanced on the market. The Evolution Compact is without a doubt one of the best-valued 3/4-hp disposals.
The L-1001 is the opposite as Waste King garbage disposals are for those who are on a budget. With a smaller motor and a much more basic build, the disposal is geared towards processing the easiest of foods. Still, the disposal is an effective grinder for what it costs. Despite its humble specs, it managed to deliver better results handling random common food scraps than even stronger and more expensive units.
Although the InSinkErator Evolution Compact 3/4 HP is a very capable machine, processing raw meat scraps is out of the question. That’s also an automatic “no” for the Waste King L-1001 1/2 HP. When we put aside its costs, the Evolution Compact offers more utility overall, but you won’t pay anything but $80 for the L-1001.
