Moen GX50C 1/2-HP vs GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal Side-by-Side Comparison
GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP vs Moen Prep GX50C 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal: Would you pay simply for more grinding power?

Tested Using Methodology v1.0GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal
Tested Using Methodology v1.0Overall Verdict
As the two best small garbage disposals in our lineup, the GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP and the Moen Prep GX50C 1/2 HP are both capable machines. The two have a lot in common: They run on high-speed permanent magnet motors that have the same average speeds, they enjoy stainless steel grinding components that have the same designs, and if you strip them of their body casings, they look exactly the same.
However, the Disposall Green’s motor is actually better. GE says that it augments the motor in some way to make it more efficient in terms of speed and noise. To be frank, the Disposall Green is just as loud as any other small disposals, but its motor does run faster (the second fastest out of the eight we’ve tested). Logically, this contributes to performance as the disposal has leading scores for the “small” category on our board.
Although the Prep GX50C is a strong disposal, its results from performance evaluations are only about average. It can deal with most random common scraps quite well, including avocado pits and cooked chicken bones, but the quality of output often feels like it can be improved. That said, if most of your kitchen discards are vegetables- or fruit-related (except for fruit stones), the disposal should be fine.
The GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP should clearly take the win here unless we consider that the Moen Prep GX50C 1/2 HP is roughly $50 cheaper and has a longer warranty (by 2 years). So ultimately, it’s a matter of how much you’re willing to pay since these are both cost-effective products.
