MWF GE Water Filter Review
The MWF refrigerator water filter is specifically designed for GE and Hotpoint side by side and upright refrigerators. It is part of the General Electric SmartWater series of filters. It replaces the GWF refrigerator filters and features some design improvements.

The MWF refrigerator water filter is proudly NSF/ANSI 43 and 52 certified for removal of lead, chlorine cysts and other water contaminants. It boasts of carbon block technology for the clearance of drinking water contaminants. This premium filtration system is capable of removing a range of fourteen contaminants including chlorine at 97.5% and lead at 99.3% reduction.
Most water supplies are routinely disinfected with chlorine. While this may make the water safer to drink, the safety comes at a price, as chlorine smells and it adversely affects the flavor of the water. Also, some microbial cysts are resistant to chlorine. The GE water filter will remove them.
The MWF water filter also removes five pharmaceuticals including ibuprofen and progesterone. The pharmaceutical reduction has been tested and certified by an independent third-party laboratory.
Easy to Install and Maintain
The MWF filter cartridges are really easy to change. There is no need to switch the water off and there are no tools required. It is a simple twist and lock design that allows you to change the filter in seconds without any mess. Twist right to tighten left to loosen. Make sure that the arrows are aligned and you’re good to go.
After installation, you’ll need to run about two gallons of water through the filter until the water runs clear. The filter is good for 6 months or 300 gallons of water, whichever comes first. Newer model GE fridges have LED filter reminders that will let you know when it is time to change the filter.
It is always a good idea to change your water filter in good time, or it won’t clear the water of contaminants as it should. Left long enough, it may even start to release some of the contaminants previously cleared from the water. The flow of the water will slow down when the filter needs replacement and the water won’t taste as good as it should.
Improved Water Flow
The new design features improved water flow of 0.5 gallons per minute. To work properly the filter requires water pressure of 40 to 120 PSI.
