I’ve always loved eating cookies while drinking milk. It just brings me an indescribable joy. That buttery cookie with a sweet scent of cocoa and rich peanut butter, dipped in milk, creates a perfect harmony that just melts in your mouth. If you’re looking for something quick and easy to bring to a party and wow everyone, these no-bake cookies are exactly what you need. I guarantee that everyone at the party will be blown away by these little devils.

How Can You Make Cookies Without An Oven?
The answer is simple: Make no-bake cookies. (￣▽￣)
There are many types of cookies: wafers, sandwich cookies, digestive biscuits, macarons, shortbreads, snickerdoodles, ginger snap, etc. And then there are no-bake cookies.
Back when I was just a child, I was completely shocked when my mom first introduced me to the concept of ‘no-bake cookies’. Before that, I had always enjoyed baking with my mom, and my favorite had always been peanut butter cookies. That’s why I was so skeptical when I first heard about no-bake cookies, and remained doubtful until I saw how they turned out. To be honest, they’re not exactly aesthetically pleasing for cookies. But the taste was phenomenal!
What Are ‘No-Bake Cookies’?
Well, they are cookies that aren’t baked. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The traditional cookies that we all know and love are made by baking them in an oven. No-bake cookies, on the other hand, require no oven and no baking. All you need is a stove to melt some butter, a pot, a mixing bowl and a few simple ingredients:
- Quick-cooking oats
- White sugar
- Cocoa powder
- Peanut butter
- Vanilla extract
As you can see, there is no egg, flour or leavening agents, which are the key ingredients that give traditional cookies their signature chewy yet soft and spongy texture. Along with butter, these ingredients create a chain of chemical reactions that transform blobs of dough into delicious cookies.
Now you might be wondering, ‘What about no-bake cookies? They aren’t baked, how do they form into shapes?’
Here is where binders come in. Binders are what hold the dry ingredients of the cookies together and keep them intact. In this recipe, butter and peanut butter, along with milk, are going to be our binders. The moisture inside these wet ingredients will soak into the dry ingredients, which are, in our case, quick-cooking oats and cocoa powder, and harden up as they cool down, giving you chewy little cookies.
Can You Use Old-Fashioned Oats In No-Bake Cookies?
For this recipe, we’re using quick-cooking oats like I mentioned above.
But yes, you can substitute quick-cooking oats with old-fashioned oats.
The difference between these 2 types of oats is that quick-cooking oats are processed into smaller pieces than the old-fashioned ones. Subsequently, they will cook faster, but have a slightly less chewy texture.
However, since we are not going to cook the oats in this recipe, there’s no need to worry about cooking time. Therefore you can use either kind of oats: Use old-fashioned oats if you prefer your cookies to be chewy, or choose quick-cooking oats if you want them soft and tender.
How To Make No-Bake Cookies
No-Bake Cookies Recipe
Yield 12 servings
Whether you’re making them to bring to a party or just to keep them in your snack pantry, these no-bake cookies are delicious and go well with a glass of milk.
1 3/4 cups white sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
How to Make
- In a pot, combine sugar, milk, butter and cocoa powder. Bring the mixture to a boil and then cook it for 90 seconds only.
- Remove the pot from the heat and stir in your chunky peanut butter, oats, and vanilla extract. Mix until everything is fully incorporated.
- Use a teaspoon to scoop small dollops of the mixture out and drop them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. You should have 36 cookies. Leave them to cool and harden.
Keep in mind that you should cook the mixture for exactly 90 seconds. Only start your timer after the mixture has reached a full rolling boil. Don’t cook it for too long or too short a time. If you boil the mixture for too long, your cookies will turn out crumbly and dry. At the same time, if you don’t cook the mixture long enough, there is a high chance that your cookies won’t form into shapes.
