How about we stop calling these dishes “salad”? It’s a pasta!

  • Sandra

For some, a serving coyld be a bowl, like a meal. For others, it may be a cup. No amount is given in the article. In heneral, what is considered a serving size fpd a pasta side dish, regardless what ingredients are? i want to try this, but I could go for a bowl as a side? I’m a thin old person, but I live mac salad!

      Hi Sandra!
A portion of this pasta salad is about 3/4 cup, filling a small bowl. There’s a picture of what it looks like in the article, right in the “Calories” section.
In regards to your question, we don’t have a general portion for pasta salads or side dishes in general, because this isn’t something the USDA’s dietary guidelines define. Different dishes have different portion sizes, and that’s okay.
What differentiates a side dish from a main dish is the nutritional profile. If you’d like to go into details, our dietary guidelines can certainly give you just the answer.
For the final question, you can have a big bowl of this salad on the side if you want, but we’d recommend that you assure the meal’s nutritional profile matches our guidelines.
