Vitamix 5200 vs 5300: Which Vitamix C-series blender is the right one for you?

Vitamix launched its Classic series of countertop blender in 2007, introducing the world to the Vitamix 5200, which featured a 2.0-horsepower motor and BPA-free container. At that time, it was one of the most advanced blenders on the market.

It quickly became a best-seller in its field, leading the company to introduce the Vitamix 5300. This next generation of Vitamix is built to last and updated to include many improvements.

In this post, we’re focusing on the Vitamix 5200 and 5300 models to compare their similarities and differences. We also discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each model so that you can choose the right one for your household.

We already have a review for Vitamix blenders, where you can find all the details of Vitamix 5200 and Vitamix 5300.

Vitamix 5200 vs 5300: What are They?

Vitamix 5200 and Vitamix 5300 are the first generations of Vitamix blender. They’re basic, simple, and exceptionally versatile. Both have premium stainless steel blades, which can give your favorite fruits a smooth consistency in a matter of seconds. With a powerful motor base and variable speed control, they come in handy for many recipes, from blending smoothies to even heating soup through friction.

Vitamix 5200

Vitamix 5200 is built based on the Vitamix’s flagship 5000. Its simple design and intuitive controls make it great for daily use and well-suited for beginners.

Featured with an overload-shutoff safety function, its motor can shut down automatically to protect the machine from damage caused by the motor overworking itself. It features a self-cleaning function, a dial that allows users to monitor the motor’s 10 speeds, and a mode switch to select between the High and Variable settings

It’s bulky and quite tall, so isn’t ideal for low cupboards. Plus, the container and all included accessories that are in contact with food are not dishwasher-safe— possibly the biggest disadvantage of Vitamix blenders.

Vitamix 5300

The 5300 has ten adjustable speeds and is equipped with a 2.2-horsepower motor. Like the Vitamix 5200, it features aircraft-grade stainless steel blades that can blend multiple types of tough ingredients with ease. It also comes with a 64-ounce, BPA-free container for easy mixing of large batches of food. All this is topped off with a 7-year warranty on all parts against workmanship detects.

The similarities do not stop there— this blender similarly has no pre-programmed settings. However, a pulse function replaces the 5200’s High/Variable button, and is included to help it chop large chunks of ingredients.

Vitamix 5200 vs. 5300: Detailed Comparison

In practice, the Vitamix 5200 and 5300 perform almost identically. Both are powerful enough to blend even the toughest ingredients. Despite having the same basic function, though, their design features are quite different, and will help you decide whether it’s worth paying a little extra for the 5300.

Here are the main differences between the Vitamix 5200 and 5300:

Motor

While both models are defined by their high functionality and durability, the 5300 model is slightly more powerful and produces less noise thanks to a new 2.2-horsepower motor. This means that, compared to the Vitamix 5200, it’s stronger and produces similar results quicker.

Container

These two models have a significant difference in the design of their 64-ounce, BPA-free containers.

While the series 5200 is too tall to fit under the average cupboard (20.5 inches tall with the pitcher on, 7.3 inches wide, 8.8 inches deep), the younger generation comes with a sleeker look and a wider, lower-profile container (17.25 inches tall).

Having a more compact design can make the Vitamix 5300 easier to use and store, especially for those with space constraints.

Blades

There is a very little difference between these two versions regarding the blade design. Both have hardened, laser-cut stainless steel blades that can blend almost everything, from grains to frozen fruits.

Compared to its predecessor, the Vitamix 5300 has larger blades (4 inches) and a larger cutting area. (The Vitamix 5200 blades are 3 inches). Despite the size difference, the blades’ performance in these blenders is almost identical.

Price

With these upgrades the Vitamix 5300 will of course be more expensive than the 5200. We consider the added price to be totally worthwhile. If you’re looking to get good bang for your buck, you can look for a Vitamix 5300 Certified Reconditioned blender. It looks and works like new, and comes with a 5-year warranty

Conclusion

You have gone through our side by side comparison, pros, cons and differences between the Vitamix 5200 and 5300. While the Vitamix 5300 is a slightly better performer, its brother is priced at better value for money. Thus, it’s your budgets that will decide your option.
